Mining application under council review in Azusa

Posted:05/09/2009 02:47:07 PM PDT

The new proposal application presented by Vulcan Mining concerning 270 acres of land in Azusa has been deemed "complete" by the city and is now being reviewed, according to officials.

The acceptance for review does not mean the proposal will go through. An environmental impact report must first be completed and submitted - a process that could take 6 to 8 months, officials said. Then the proposal and the report will go to the city's planning commission and then to the city council for a vote.

Vulcan has an entitlement to mine 190 acres of the 270 acres of land they own in the mountains in Azusa. The proposal suggest moving an 80 acre section of the proposal from the east side to the west side, closer to Duarte.
