Vulcan Materials Getting Ready to Expand Into the Additional 80 Acres

February, 2007

The Azusa Rock Quarry has seen some preliminary digging into the far western boundary of the currently permitted mining area. Since this mining is right against the boundary, there is no point to begin mining here unless they intend to expand into the additional 80 acres within a short period of time.

An expansion into this area corresponds with Vulcan's Phase II and Phase IV mining plans, which include expansion into the additional 80 acres:

Conclusion

Vulcan Materials is planning to expand mining into the additional 80 acres, since they have begun preliminary digging into their planned Phase II and Phase IV sites, which extend into the 80 acres. Be prepared to voice your concern to Azusa's City Council and Mayor!
